I was visiting my cousin over the weekend. Every alternate saturday her kids go out for "thak thak". The kids are too young to call a hammer by the name, and hence the unique name to the activity: toy-making at Lowe's.
Kids are given kits, (made in China, of course), apron, a hammer to be returned after the activity, a badge and certificate of participation. The kits have perfectly cut edges, and laser-bored holes for the nails. There's a graphic instruction sheet that comes with the kit. Kids build up toys with their parents' help. Its a great family activity and enhances eye-hand coordination.

This is one memory of America that will be chiseled in my mind, and so far my most favourite view of American life.
